THE ASSEMBLY RITUAL
This Is How My Iron Orcs Come to Life
There’s something I never stop feeling, no matter how many miniatures I’ve sculpted or assembled over the years.
That moment when I pick up the freshly printed parts—or pieces just out of the box—and begin to assemble them...
It’s something magical.
A few days ago, I sat down in the studio to assemble my new Iron Orc regiment armed with two-handed weapons and with weapond and shield.
And as always, the moment I begin fitting the parts together...
That moment I always look forward to—and that still never ceases to amaze me—arrives:
I stop seeing miniatures.
I start seeing characters.
From unassembled parts... to warriors with a story.
It always happens to me, I look at them and think:
“This one has survived three battles... and many more to come. How the hell did he lose that tusk?”
And the strangest part is that, while assembling them, I forget that I sculpted them myself.
That when I gave him that broken tusk, I already imagined how he lost it.
It’s as if, when I’m assembling miniatures, I’m activating a completely different part of my brain.
I attach an arm, tilt a head, adjust a pose... and suddenly, the army comes to life.
One by one, they rise as a living unit, with soul and purpose.
When I assemble, I’m not a sculptor.
I’m a general gathering his troops. A commander leading a warband that will make my opponent tremble the moment they’re deployed.
Because war doesn’t begin on the battlefield. It begins on your desk. With glue on your fingers and visions of triumph in your mind.
That’s where legends are truly born.
See you on the next battlefield!
