STUPIDITY MARKER STONE TROLL
A New Legend Joins the Hall...
STUPIDITY MARKER TROLL
Painted by Eymeric Charles-Angèle (@mrk_painting)
In a world full of rage, this Stone Troll charges forward with absurdity—and an absolutely unforgettable attitude.
His vacant expression, upside-down book, and rigid pose turn him into an instant classic for old-school wargaming.
What Eymeric shares about his painting process:
“This miniature was a surprise—way more fun to paint than I expected. The goal was simple: go raw, no overthinking, no rush, no spending dozens of hours. Just pure enjoyment.”
“In this kind of painting, where efficiency matters more than perfection, it’s key to guide the viewer’s eye. That’s why I pushed the highlights almost to pure white on the face and left hand—I wanted those areas to draw the focus.”
“I own the full range of Avatars of War trolls, but I started with this one because its design has a comical, parodic tone that I love. It captures exactly what 28mm fantasy trolls should be. Adding humor to my Gloomspite Gitz makes them stand out—it makes them mine.”
Technical painting details (raw-style troll)
Priming: Black with white zenithal (Molotow), applied with airbrush
Skin: Kimera Blue, lightened with white
Belly, elbows, face, feet: Ochre Yellow + Ice Yellow (AK) + Magenta washes
Back / stone skin: Pale Blue drybrush + Purple wash
Book: Simulated lettering using random shapes + glazes for parchment effect
This Stone Troll is proof that wargaming has room for laughter and sometimes, showing off a troll with a book he clearly can’t read, makes your mini even more memorable than the fiercest warrior on the battlefield.
Thank you, Eymeric. Welcome to the Legendary Hall.
This troll has soul. It has humor.
And that’s exactly why it belongs among the greats.
This is Old-School spirit in its purest form!
